Your card
Why BCBS cards need a closer look
Blue Cross Blue Shield is a group of independent companies, and dental plans under the name can be set up differently from state to state and employer to employer. Some BCBS dental plans are administered by a partner company. Your card tells us who to call:
- Member ID, including any letters at the start
- Group number
- Which company administers the dental benefits, if it's printed on the card
- The dental customer service number on the back
Plan types
Medical card or dental card?
Many people carry a BCBS medical card and assume dental is included. Often it isn't; dental may be a separate plan with its own card, or not part of your coverage at all. If you're not sure, send us whatever cards you have and we'll figure it out with you.
If your BCBS plan is from another state, or it's an HMO-style dental plan, call before booking so we can confirm how it works with our office.
Coverage
What BCBS dental plans commonly cover
Most dental PPO plans, including many under the BCBS name, follow a familiar pattern: preventive care covered at the highest level, basic care like fillings at a middle level, and major care like crowns and dentures at a lower level, with a deductible and a yearly maximum. Waiting periods for major work are common on individually purchased plans.
We'll look up your plan's actual percentages, deductible, what's left of this year's maximum, and any waiting periods, then show you the expected cost of each treatment in writing.
Coverage details are typical examples, not a guarantee. Your plan documents and our verification are what count.
How we verify
What happens after you send your details
- We contact Blue Cross Blue Shield (or check its provider portal) to confirm your plan is active and in network with us.
- We note your coverage levels, deductible, what's left of your yearly maximum, and any waiting periods.
- The front desk calls you back with what your first visit should cost.
- If you need treatment, you get a written estimate before anything starts.
