Your card
What we look for on a Cigna card
Cigna dental plans are usually through an employer. The details that help us check your benefits quickly:
- Member ID and the primary subscriber's name
- Group or account number
- The plan name, which tells us whether it's a PPO or a DHMO plan
- The customer service number on the back
Plan types
Cigna PPO or Cigna DHMO
Cigna's dental PPO plans let you choose your dentist and pay less at an in-network office like ours. Cigna's DHMO plans are different: they typically require you to be assigned to a specific network dentist and use a set schedule of copays.
If your plan is a DHMO, or you aren't sure, call us first. We'll check whether your plan lets you see us and tell you how it works.
Coverage
Planning bigger treatment with Cigna
Root canals, crowns and implants are where dental insurance math matters most. Plans commonly cover a root canal as basic or major care and a crown as major care, each after the deductible and up to the yearly maximum. Some plans also have waiting periods or frequency limits, like how often a crown can be replaced.
Before we start anything significant, we'll check those details with Cigna and give you the numbers step by step. If your plan allows a pre-treatment estimate from Cigna, we can request one.
Coverage details are typical examples, not a guarantee. Your plan documents and our verification are what count.
How we verify
What happens after you send your details
- We contact Cigna (or check its provider portal) to confirm your plan is active and in network with us.
- We note your coverage levels, deductible, what's left of your yearly maximum, and any waiting periods.
- The front desk calls you back with what your first visit should cost.
- If you need treatment, you get a written estimate before anything starts.
